In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia, a revelation was given to
Daniel (who was called Belteshazzar). Its message was true and it
concerned a great war. The understanding of the message came to him in a
vision.  (Daniel 10:1 NIV)

The word of the Lord came to me:  (Ezekiel 34:1 NIV)

At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks.  (Daniel 10:2 NIV)

“Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy and say
to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Woe to you shepherds of
Israel who only take care of yourselves! Should not shepherds take care
of the flock?  (Ezekiel 34:2 NIV)

I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no
lotions at all until the three weeks were over.  (Daniel 10:3 NIV)

You eat the curds, clothe yourselves with the wool and slaughter the
choice animals, but you do not take care of the flock.  (Ezekiel 34:3
NIV)

On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the
bank of the great river, the Tigris,  (Daniel 10:4 NIV)

You have not strengthened the weak or healed the sick or bound up the
injured. You have not brought back the strays or searched for the lost.
You have ruled them harshly and brutally.  (Ezekiel 34:4 NIV)

I looked up and there before me was a man dressed in linen, with a belt
of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist.  (Daniel 10:5 NIV)

So they were scattered because there was no shepherd, and when they were
scattered they became food for all the wild animals.  (Ezekiel 34:5 NIV)

His body was like topaz, his face like lightning, his eyes like flaming
torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and his
voice like the sound of a multitude.  (Daniel 10:6 NIV)

My sheep wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill. They
were scattered over the whole earth, and no one searched or looked for
them.  (Ezekiel 34:6 NIV)

I, Daniel, was the only one who saw the vision; those who were with me
did not see it, but such terror overwhelmed them that they fled and hid
themselves.  (Daniel 10:7 NIV)

“ ‘Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord :  (Ezekiel 34:7
NIV)

So I was left alone, gazing at this great vision; I had no strength
left, my face turned deathly pale and I was helpless.  (Daniel 10:8 NIV)

As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord , because my flock
lacks a shepherd and so has been plundered and has become food for all
the wild animals, and because my shepherds did not search for my flock
but cared for themselves rather than for my flock,  (Ezekiel 34:8 NIV)

A hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees.  (Daniel
10:10 NIV)

This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against the shepherds and
will hold them accountable for my flock. I will remove them from tending
the flock so that the shepherds can no longer feed themselves. I will
rescue my flock from their mouths, and it will no longer be food for
them.  (Ezekiel 34:10 NIV)

to you.” And when he said this to me, I stood up trembling.  (Daniel
10:11 NIV)

“ ‘For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search for my
sheep and look after them.  (Ezekiel 34:11 NIV)

Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that
you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before
your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them.
(Daniel 10:12 NIV)

As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so
will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where
they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness.  (Ezekiel 34:12
NIV)

But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then
Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was
detained there with the king of Persia.  (Daniel 10:13 NIV)

I will bring them out from the nations and gather them from the
countries, and I will bring them into their own land. I will pasture
them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines and in all the
settlements in the land.  (Ezekiel 34:13 NIV)

Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the
future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come.”  (Daniel 10:14 NIV)

I will tend them in a good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel
will be their grazing land. There they will lie down in good grazing
land, and there they will feed in a rich pasture on the mountains of
Israel.  (Ezekiel 34:14 NIV)

and was speechless.  (Daniel 10:15 NIV)

I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the
Sovereign Lord .  (Ezekiel 34:15 NIV)

Then one who looked like a man touched my lips, and I opened my mouth
and began to speak. I said to the one standing before me, “I am overcome
with anguish because of the vision, my lord, and I feel very weak.
